The Disclosure and Barring Service recently announced an update to their costs for DBS checks – and here’s a pleasant surprise: the prices have been reduced!
In this quick blog, we go over the price changes, and how they will impact our own costs going forward.
DBS price changes:
| Price change | Old DBS cost | New DBS cost | Old uCheck cost (1-50 employees) | New uCheck cost (1-50 employees) | |
| Basic DBS | £1.50 | £21.50 | £20.00 | £37.20 | £35.70 |
| Standard DBS | £1.50 | £21.50 | £20.00 | £37.20 | £35.70 |
| Enhanced DBS | £8.50 | £49.50 | £41.00 | £65.20 | £56.70 |
| Update Service subscription | £1 | £16.00 | £15.00 |
These changes will be reflected on 5 October 2026.
Why have the changes been made?
The DBS reviews their prices each year, and is fully funded by the fees it charges for its services. This year, the DBS is in the fortunate position where they’ve been able to lower their prices – whilst no reason has been given officially, this may be due to the consistently above-forecast submission of DBS checks throughout the year, which have been reported on monthly in the Police Performance Information reports.
These changes have been approved by the DBS board, Home Office, HM Treasury, and the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls.
