An enhanced DBS check (also formerly referred to as a CRB check) is a checking service used to verify the past history and criminal background of an employee, potential employee or a volunteer within situations such as the training, care or supervision of children under 18 years of age or vulnerable adults within care homes, nurseries, schools, children homes, or within activities such as brownies, guides or scouts. This ‘enhanced’ check is also required for employment in statutory sectors such as gaming or lottery licences.
An enhanced DBS check provides a level of checking that is higher than that provided by a statutory DBS check as it includes a check on Police records for relevant information and may even include additional information which will be disclosed to a counter signatory and not be revealed to the DBS check applicant.
