Building A Strong Team Culture At uCheck

jogging

At uCheck, building a strong team culture is a top priority, and something we try to promote in everything we do.

We’re really proud of how enthusiastic, supportive and engaged our team is – so in this week’s blog we thought we’d give you a little glimpse behind the scenes. Read on to find out what it’s like to be part of the uCheck team…

Boosting morale with team building

Team building is a big part of life at uCheck. It enables us to bring people from all the different departments together, and is a brilliant way to boost camaraderie and motivation.

Our company is split into three ‘pods’, with members from each department spread across the three pods. We hold regular ‘pod wars’ events where the pods compete in games, activities and challenges.

Earlier this year we hosted our very own version of Mastermind. It was a tense evening for our contestants, with specialist subjects including Henry VIII and his six wives, 90s Britpop and the TV series Friends.

Our most recent pod wars event was a treasure hunt – with a twist. Members of each pod competed in a series of tasks, including rock climbing, bowling, pint downing, food tasting – and a lot of running!

Our pod wars events are always great fun, and the team is already looking forward to the next one – in the coming months we’ve got canoe racing and ‘Ready Steady Cook’ planned.

Working together to support a good cause

Supporting a charity is a great way of building a strong team culture.

Working towards a common goal outside of everyday work responsibilities enables the team to bond on a deeper level, and the feeling that you’re doing something worthwhile is a great morale booster.

Each year we choose a different charity to support, and organise fundraising activities for the team to get involved in.

This year we’ve chosen to support local charity Devon Air Ambulance, which provides an outstanding helicopter emergency medical service across Devon and the surrounding areas, 24 hours a day. It’s a fantastic service and we’re really proud to be supporting it.

We have a team of 15 runners taking part in the Exeter Great West Run in October, and we have 11 team members signed up to Tough Mudder in Bristol in July. They’re all training hard and have already raised a third of our target amount and counting – if you’d like to contribute, you can find our donation page here.

Building a strong team culture – the uCheck way

There’s a lot more to working at uCheck than just processing, vetting and screening DBS Checks.

Our team building activities, social events and fundraising challenges have helped to build a strong team where people feel valued, engaged and connected.
