DVLA Checks: Why Use Our Online Platform?

dvla checks

DVLA driving licence checks are vital if your organisation has employees who drive as part of their job.

DVLA checks are an easy way to ensure employees who drive are suitable to do so – and failing to carry out checks could have serious consequences.

Our online system makes carrying out driving licence checks quick and painless. Read on to find out how…

What is a driving licence check?

Driving licence checks are provided by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) through an online service.

The check enables employers to securely verify an employee or potential employee’s driving licence information, as held by the DVLA.

Employers should carry out driving licence checks on anyone they employ to drive, as well as any employee who drives in the course of their duties (even if it’s not the main part of their job).

Checks should also be regularly renewed to ensure employees haven’t picked up any penalty points, convictions or disqualifications that would make them unsuitable to carry out their role.

What will DVLA checks show?

A DVLA check will show:

  • The expiry date of the applicant’s licence
  • The types of vehicle the applicant is licensed to drive
  • The applicant’s licence validity, including any disqualifications
  • Any penalty points or offences on the applicant’s driving record

Why carry out driving licence checks?

Carrying out driving licence checks on employees reduces risk for organisations in a variety of ways by:

  • Ensuring employees are appropriately licensed to carry out their roles safely
  • Verifying that employees are not driving illegally
  • Highlighting any previous driving convictions that may make someone unsuitable to carry out a driving role

If you don’t carry out DVLA checks on employees who drive, there’s a chance your organisation may face significant repercussions.

For example, if you employ someone who isn’t appropriately licensed and they’re then involved in a driving incident while working, your organisation could face serious legal, financial and reputational consequences.

Failing to carry out the appropriate checks – or being unable to show that you’ve carried them out – may also affect fleet vehicle insurance.

As you can see, it’s much better to be safe than sorry.

What are the benefits of using the uCheck platform?

We provide DVLA checks through our unique online platform, which allows you to quickly and easily validate an applicant’s driving record. Simply enter a few details and the results will be ready within five minutes to one hour.

When you carry out checks directly through the DVLA, applicants are required to provide a time-limited code. Each code is only valid for 21 days, so new codes need to be reissued and entered each time you renew a check.

With the uCheck platform, there’s no need for codes. Our simple applicant consent system enables you to carry out checks as many times as you need. The consent lasts for three years and can be easily renewed.

It’s easy to renew checks, with a traffic light system that enables you to set the frequency of renewal for each person based on their role and history.

This means that any changes in driving status are automatically picked up. You’ll receive notification when this happens – something that isn’t possible when checking directly through the DVLA.

If you’re ready to start carrying out driving licence checks, get started with our platform here or get in touch to find out more.
