Frequently Asked Questions
Digital identity verification checks are a fully digital way to verify the identity of prospective employees. Instead of showing a physical identity document, they can provide the same information digitally.
This kind of verification puts identity checking in the hands of applicants, saving you time verifying documents. Digital checks are also more reliable than traditional physical checks, so you can be sure your prospective applicants are who they say they are.
To deliver this service, uCheck has partnered with the Post Office, Yoti and Trust ID. The Technology used is certified as compliant with ISO/IEC 27001 information security standards and security controls are audited using the ISAE 300 (SOC2) methodology.
We have created a help page for applicants to answer any questions they may have about the Digital ID process. You can see the help page here. If applicants ask you a question about Digital ID that is not answered on this page, please contact our support team and we will update the page to include the information they need.
Your applicant will need a smart phone, and install either the Yoti or Post Office app on the device. They will also need identity documents, dependant of the level of assurance needed for the check. Typically this is a passport and either a UK driving license or appear on credit agencies for the address they currently live at.
The applicant will, as part of the process, be given the option to opt-out. If this happens, we will automatically return the application process to allow for the manual checking approach.
Digital ID checks don’t have the same requirements from the DBS for proof of ID being checked. Keeping a copy of the ID is not necessary for Digital ID, because it has been verified by a trusted third party.
Digital ID checks that have been performed by Yoti will have ‘Yoti Ltd’ in the Evidence Checked By field so the organisation will be able to prove that the ID was verified using Digital ID.
If the Digital ID check has been performed by Trust ID you will be able to access a Digital ID report with the results in the uCheck platform.
A Digital ID check becomes chargeable when it has been successfully completed and returned to the system. Therefore if you cancel your Digital ID after that point, or withdraw the application, you will still be charged for the Digital ID check.
